Escape to Safelandia: Creative Engagements With Migration

What’s on offer?

This free creative, hands-on workshop will allow the participants to explore the themes of migration and forced displacement through drawing, cartoon and zine making, with the award-winning cartoonist Kate Evans, author of Threads: from the refugee crisis, and Escape to Safelandia, a comic book about the UK asylum system. Members of Aston Centre for Migration and Forced Displacement will discuss current issues in migration, and the power of art and journalism in telling stories of the displaced.

What’s it about?

The workshop will encourage participants to think about ideas of home and migration through the medium of cartooning and zine-making. Participants will be guided through the making of their own mini-comic, creating a storyline, characters and folding their comic. All materials will be provided. Booking is essential.
