Wallsend Boys Club: Contributing to Lifelong Wellbeing.

The difference grassroots & community sports clubs make to health and wellbeing.

Female football coach coaching around a dozen girls in football strips in a group with footballs

Lifelong wellbeing theme

What’s on offer?

This event will use a new community hub at Wallsend Boys Club (WBC) to engage current and former members of the club and their families to discuss the long-term benefits of participation in the club. Former members and volunteers will be invited to come along, on a drop-in basis, and discuss their experiences and their memories of the club, and if and how membership has affected their health and well-being into adulthood.  Archival material such as photographs, newspaper cuttings, team sheets and club registers will be displayed in a multi-use space in the new community hub to facilitate discussions with and between current and former members and volunteers.

What’s it about?

WBC has been supporting young people and their families since 1965, with a number of people retaining ties to the club well into adulthood through volunteering or family connections. This event will examine the long-term difference that membership of the club has made to the health and wellbeing of current and former members and volunteers

Who’s leading the event?

Stephen Crossley, Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology
