Walk-shop on the Greenway: Healthy ageing and the SPACE project

Photograph of people walking on a path through a park

Lifelong wellbeing theme

What’s on offer?

The event will be specifically targeted towards older adults (though learnings will be appropriate for all ages). The event will begin with a gentle 1 hour guided walk of the Connswater Community Greenway, along which we will have researchers and staff members from the SPACE project posted (in a soap box-fashion) to share factsheets on the various environmental exposures which impact our ability to live and age well. The event will end at JACK Coffee Bar Café, where we will provide refreshments and play videos produced by the SPACE project which explore the environmental exposures impacting healthy ageing. Participants will be provided with print-versions of the information, and can engage in informal discussions with SPACE project researchers.

What’s it about?

Exploring the green and blue space in our communities for public and planetary health and wellbeing and healthy ageing. We will explore the themes of the SPACE (Supportive Environments for Physical and Social Activity, Healthy Ageing and Cognitive Health) project, which includes different environmental factors and exposures which can have an impact upon our health and how we age (for example, noise pollution, climate change).

Who’s leading the event?

Prof Ruth Hunter, professor of public and planetary health, director of GroundsWell consortium, QUB Dr Niamh O'Kane, research fellow and science communication and impact officer, QUB Other researchers/speakers from the SPACE project in QUB - TBC
