Table showing a glass savings jar of coins, with coins spread out on the table, plus a calculator, pad and pencil, and scrabble letters spelling 'SAVE'

What’s on offer?

A one-hour webinar focussing on the problems of the UK pension system and possible policy alternatives. Chaired by Prof. Hulya Dagdeviren, Professor of International Economic Development at the University of Hertfordshire, Dr Bruno Bonizzi, Associate Professor of Research at the University of Hertfordshire, Dr Jennifer Churchill, Senior Lecturer in Economics at University of the West of England - Bristol and Dr Sahil Dutta, Lecturer in International Political Economy at City University London, will explore different aspects of the UK pension system. Representatives from the think-tank Common Wealth will also be present at the event, which will finish with audience feedback and questions.

What’s it about?

Is the UK pension system fit for purpose? What are the alternatives? These are some of the key questions being explored and discussed by some prominent economists and pension experts during this hour-long webinar. As well as highlighting the problems in the current structure of the UK pension system, the group will uncover the limited adequacy and uneven distribution of pensions in the UK, where half of the population has no pension wealth at all. They will also explore the limits of pension investment and its potential to invest in productive and green ventures. The discussion will see the participation of the think-tank Common Wealth, which has recently published a report on UK pensions.

Who’s leading the event?

Dr Bruno Bonizzi and Prof Hulya Dagdeviren (University of Hertfordshire)
