Section 28 and Me -  A discursive Salon

Abstract painting

What’s on offer?

A performative discussion

What’s it about?

Bristol-based artist Tom Marshman invites you to join him to explore the effects on LGBTQ+ communities of a series of laws introduced in the 1980s collectively known as Section 28, which prohibited the "promotion of homosexuality" by local authorities.

The effects of this legislation created a state of disappearance for queer representation. Tom has been gathering thoughts and experiences of LGBTQ+ communities who lived through this moment of restriction and repression. During the Salon, Tom, researchers and collaborators will join to reflect on this work, invite the audience to contribute, and share a micro-performance in response to his findings.

This event is part of the State of Disappearance project. For more events, visit historiesofviolence.com.
