What’s on offer?

The inaugural performance of Scoring Mental Health, a series of new musical works co-created with composer Gawain Hewitt and people with lived experience of mental ill health, followed by a discussion of the issues raised by the music and the project.  

What’s it about?

Sometimes experiences of mental ill health can be impossible to put into words and difficult for others to understand.  In this project Professor Sally Marlow of King’s College London worked with composer Gawain Hewitt and people with lived experience to co-compose new music through a series of focus groups and music making workshops, to capture their experiences in a way that they felt represented these musically.   The process was captured on a programme for BBC Radio 3’s Between the Ears slot, called Scoring Mental Health.  In this inaugural performance, Gawain will be joined by musicians from the City of London Sinfonia to share the music created.   The performance will be followed by a discussion panel with those involved in the project.  The audience will hear the music live for the first time, and then have the opportunity to ask Gawain and others questions about the process and the finished compositions.  This promises to be a unique insight into how music can communicate what words can’t.
