Nacho, Nacho (Dance, Dance)

3 Bollywood dancers

Lifelong wellbeing theme

What’s on offer?

Come along and join our Nacho Nacho (Dance, Dance) event where a Bollywood dance tutor will be facilitating a session in the community.  Based on attendees physical abilities, the aim is to deliver activities which will encourage and provide guidance on moving more and to become more physically active in a fun and social way that is culturally appropriate.

The physical activity session will be followed by ‘Chai and Chat’ a refreshment break with facilitated conversation about healthy lifestyle with the aim of providing social interaction to help alleviate isolation and improve mental wellbeing.

What’s it about?

Bollywood dance has grown in popularity in recent years and is often central to family interactions and celebrations. This style of dance is accessible and open to all ages and, once taught alternatives to suit their ability, it will enable participants to increase their movement in a fun enjoyable way.

The dance will be followed by a facilitated discussion, ‘Chai and chat’ and will be an opportunity for the attendees to hear about healthy lifestyle advice and for researchers and health care professionals to listen and respond to the concerns of the community to guide the development of future research priorities.

Who’s leading the event?

The University of Leicester Centre for Ethnic Health Research are leading the event alongside Zee Survay (Zfit) who will be leading dance sessions.  Team members from Leicester City Football, Leicestershire County Cricket Club, Leicester Riders and Leicester Tigers will be present on the day showcasing what physical activity opportunities they have available through their community outreach arms.
