Imagination Café

What’s on offer?

Imagination Café is a 2 hour event at the New House Art Space and Gallery run by academics in the School of Psychology at the University of Surrey. It is a pop-up event that showcases a variety of creative and multisensory approaches to dementia care. These include light refreshments, archive object handling, participatory art activity run by an artist, along with and specialist information that draws on research findings (including AHRC-funded Culture Box).

What’s it about?

Imagination Cafe is a pop-up installation open to the public that aims to spread the word about research on creative approaches to dementia care. The Café offers an accessible, welcoming, communal space that showcases a variety of creative and multisensory approaches that can be used in dementia care. These include light refreshments, a selection of activities incluing a participatory art workshop run by an artist, artwork made by people living with dementia (loaned from Arts4Dementia), along with and specialist information that draws on research findings. The cafe will have a drop-in format, with activities ongoing throughout the 2 hour session and light refreshments served for care home residents. 

Although designed for those with dementia, it is an accessible event for a wide range of the public including children and those with learning disabilities. The event will be open to all members of the public interested in dementia, dementia care and research, and creative activities. 

New House Art Space and Gallery is an accessible space, located on the ground floor and is accessible via a ramp. There is also an accessible toilet on the same floor.
