Healthy Ageing: Remembering Scottish Football

Photograph of men seated around a table watching footage of football on a large screen.

Lifelong wellbeing theme

What’s on offer?

A participatory showcase highlighting the use of technology in Sports-Based Reminiscence sessions. Explore the principles and development of a football-inspired session that can be used anywhere in Scotland and beyond. Meet the researchers behind the project, and explore how groups and partner organisations co-designed these memories sessions.

What’s it about?

Sports-Based Reminiscence sessions can be used in community groups and care homes for people who are living with dementia. The sessions are relaxed and informal, and present opportunities for people to connect with each other and feel part of a welcoming community with common interests. The 1967 session was developed from an idea provided by a community group member, who was interested in seeing more of the famous England v Scotland football game at Wembley in 1967. Discover how researchers developed this idea into a session that can be used in almost any group or care setting.

Who’s leading the event?

John Ritchie, Research Fellow at the University of Stirling

Levi Tippett, PhD Candidate, University of Stirling

Partner: Scottish Football Museum
