What’s on offer?

This workshop will explore the 1832, Glasgow health crisis with the outbreak of cholera taking events from the 19th Century and considering historical responses to disease control, using an adapted form of the popular board game Pandemic.

What’s it about?

In 1832, Glasgow was one of several cities in the UK to undergo a major health crisis following an outbreak of cholera. Medical experts sought to understand the origins of this terrible disease whilst keeping the outbreak under control. As they struggled to minimise fatalities, people in Glasgow became increasingly concerned. This workshop will explore these events from the 19th Century and consider historical responses to disease control using an adapted form of the popular board game Pandemic. In teams of two, players will travel the health districts of Glasgow, treating patients, whilst trying to gather clues about the nature of the disease. The progress of the disease in the game will be controlled centrally, and each team will have the same resources. Will one team be able to succeed where others fail? How will each team manage the crisis? Will anyone discover a cure?

Who’s leading the event?
