The Ups and Downs of Caring for Somebody Living with Dementia

Join us to play our version of snakes and ladders to gain an insight into the complexities faced by families caring for someone with dementia

Caring wheel

Lifelong wellbeing theme

What’s on offer?

A pop-up stand with activities designed to engage young people with the topic of dementia and end of life, with a particular focus on raising awareness of the impact of dementia on family carers. There will be three activities

Play a game focusing on the effects on families caring for someone with dementia

Wishing Tree for you to write your preferences for care towards the end of life on leaves and then hang these on the tree

There will also be opportunities to talk with the EMBED-Care team about dementia and well-being.

What’s it about?

Dementia is the leading cause of death in the UK. 1 in 3 adults in the UK will provide care for somebody living with dementia and 1 in 11 over 65-year-olds currently have dementia. Our pop-up stand aims to raise awareness of dementia amongst young people. The activities focus on exploring how caring for a family member with dementia can impact families and what care they would want for themselves and family members at the end of life. We hope that this will lead visitors to think about this for themselves and to spark conversations with families and friends and that by discussing and sharing this information in advance it will contribute to everyone’s well-being.

Who’s leading the event?

Sophie Crawley, Research Fellow at UCL Marie Curie Palliative Care Research Department

Of particular interest to

Young adults wanting to know about dementia or those already with some knowledge of dementia
