If you are interested in soft (textile) sculpture, puppet making, character development and working with form and colour to create unique characters and narratives, this session is for you. We will explore creative abstraction of the real world – a technique used in many creative industries, as well as becoming acquainted with the different creative uses of textiles.
Have you ever wanted to explore hands on creation of unique characters? Do you have an interest in Puppetry? Would you like to explore the creative medium of textile?
Build a Puppet is a session where participants will explore character creation, narratives and small-scale puppet making. Participants will design a character through exploring what ‘hero’ means to them, considering what the word means to them, who their personal heroes are and what kind of hero they think the world needs. Participants can be as abstract or literal as they want with their design. There will be colour wheels and other resources to help stimulate ideas on shape and form in connection to character and emotion.
We will use a blend of felt, foam and other waste textiles which is in line with our ethos of upcycling and creative reuse working towards a circular economy and overcoming the environmental damage of the textile industry.
