Two, ninety minute drop in sessions will be held to discover the Blooming Well project
Blooming Well is a community-based gardening therapy group began by the Mustard Tree Macmillan Cancer Support Centre in 2022 for patients with a cancer diagnosis to help promote their wellbeing and recovery.
This drop-in event is an opportunity for members of the local community to gain an overview of the unique context and focus of Blooming Well. Participants attending the event will be able to:
- explore the natural environment of Blooming Well
- find out the benefits of the project highlighted in recent research with the University of Plymouth*
- gain ideas of the focus of the sessions
- receive information on how to access the group.
The event will be of interest to those living with cancer and people who support individuals living with cancer (e.g. social care workers and students) in the local area. The day will be friendly and supportive, comprising two sessions at 10:00–11:30 and 12:30–14:00 with activities aimed at adults.
Note: There is minimal parking onsite in the village so please email annie@bloomingwell.org.uk, tel: (01822) 853186 for further instructions.
Blooming Well can be found at: Sheepstor Village Hall, Sheepstor, Dartmoor PL20 6PF.
The event allows for maximum attendance of 20 people per session and registration is essential via the above link. A map and directions to the venue (PDF) is also available via the booking button above.
*This project was funded by the University's Get Involved Awards 2022. Research undertaken by occupational therapy academics from the University evaluated the project and have devised a strategy for conducting future research to collect data that will measure the potential for the intervention to promote physical, psychological, emotional, and social wellbeing and restoration when living with or recovering from cancer. Please contact alison.warren@plymouth.ac.uk, kerryann.steele@plymouth.ac.uk or melissa.jacobs@plymouth.ac.uk with any research queries.
