This event seeks to create a safe and welcoming space for discussion, crafting, and creative engagement with social science methods.
The event will begin with a short talk about #BeeProud: an LGBTQ+ wellbeing project run by researchers at the University of Manchester and The Proud Trust.
After this, we will learn together how to make zines (handmade magazines) and have a go at making a zine that expresses an aspect of our own identity.
All materials will be provided, but feel free to bring along any pictures, stickers, etc. of your own!
#BeeProud is a research project exploring wellbeing experiences of LGBTQ+ young people in Greater Manchester.
Based between the University of Manchester and the Proud Trust, #BeeProud is made up of young researchers (aged 17-20) and researchers from the University of Manchester.
This event will showcase the work conducted by the #BeeProud team so far and demonstrate the various ways that young people (both in and out of university) can take part in social science research. We will have important discussions around wellbeing and identity that are particularly relevant to the lives of young people.
Dr Catherine Atkinson (Lecturer, Manchester Institute of Education)
