A source of strength: celebrating children’s and mothers’ relationships in the context of domestic abuse

Public photography exhibition

What’s on offer?

Visit a photography exhibition that celebrates the relationships between children and mothers in the context of domestic abuse. The photographs have been created by children and mothers with experience of domestic abuse. The exhibition honours these relationships, and the vital role they play in protecting and supporting children to recover from domestic abuse. This is in partnership with Edinburgh Women’s Aid and Stills Photography Centre

What’s it about?

This exhibition offers you a chance to engage with research on children and domestic abuse. The aim is to help initiate conversations about domestic abuse and highlight the importance of the mother-child relationship in supporting children’s recovery. The exhibition of photographs created by children and mothers celebrates these vital relationships.

The photography exhibition and digital archive curates existing photographs created by children and mothers with experience of domestic abuse as part of a Photovoice Project. These photographs celebrate and highlight the importance of the mother-child relationship. The digital archive will be hosted on UoE’s Child and Youth Studies website and extend beyond ESRC Festival of Social Science.
